Charanjit Singh Channi Holds High-Level Congress Meeting in Morinda Hours After Punjab Organisation Revamp, Fueling Leadership Speculation
Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi held a high-level Congress meeting in Morinda just hours after the party announced its new Punjab organisational team. The participation of senior leaders, former ministers, legislators, and Balkaur Singh has intensified speculation over leadership discussions and the Congress party's strategy in Punjab.
Channi was recently appointed Chairperson of the Congress Campaign Committee by the party high command. However, he has also been lobbying for the post of Punjab Congress president, making the timing of the meeting politically significant. The Congress party has not disclosed the agenda of the gathering, but its immediate scheduling after the announcement of the new organisational structure has drawn considerable attention.
The meeting witnessed the participation of several senior Congress leaders, former ministers, former Members of the Legislative Assembly, former Members of Parliament, and sitting legislators. Among those present were former Deputy Chief Minister OP Soni; former ministers Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, Gurpreet Singh Kangar, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Rana Gurjeet Singh, and Gurkirat Singh Kotli. Former Member of Parliament Mohammad Sadiq also attended the meeting.
Former Members of the Legislative Assembly Darshan Singh Brar, Lakhvir Singh Lakha, Madan Lal Jalalpur, Angad Singh Saini, Harminder Singh Gill, Kushaldeep Singh "Kikki" Dhillon, Tarsem Singh, Devinder Ghubaya, Joginder Pal, and Inderbir Singh Bolaria were also present. Former Punjab Youth Congress president Barinder Singh Dhillon participated in the discussions as well.
Balkaur Singh, father of the late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, also attended the meeting. He is regarded as being close to Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, adding further political significance to the gathering.
The meeting was also attended by sitting Members of the Legislative Assembly Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Rana Gurjeet Singh, and Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, reflecting the participation of influential leaders from across the party's organisational and legislative wings.
Although the Congress leadership has remained silent on the purpose of the meeting, its timing immediately after the announcement of the new Punjab Congress organisational team has triggered widespread speculation about internal consultations, leadership discussions, and the party's political strategy ahead. The presence of several senior leaders has made the gathering one of the most closely watched political developments in Punjab following the organisational reshuffle.
